Math 8 Overview
In this course you will use your mathematical intuition to become a clever thinker and problem-solver, so that you are ready for high school mathematics courses. What we learn will be the basis for high school algebra and geometry.
The math 8 course will consist of the following units:
Unit 1: Solving Equations
Unit 2: Data Displays
Unit 3: Linear Functions
Unit 4: Types of Numbers and the Pythagorean Theorem
Unit 5: Rules of Exponents and Scientific Notation
Unit 6: Geometric Transformations and Applications
Unit 7: Linear Systems of Equations
Unit 8: Volume of Cylinders, Cones, and Spheres

Assessment of Understanding Rubric
Raising your grade
If a student does not score at their desired skill level, they will have a two week window to show mastery/improvement of the skill. Re-takes will be offered every Friday at lunch in an announced location. In order to retake a skill, students must earn a retake ticket by doing at least two of the following:
For some skills, the teachers will determine the proficiency level. Any students who do not meet this level will work with the teachers during patriot plus sessions and automatically re-take the skill assessment.

Re-takes will be offered every Friday at lunch in an announced location. In order to retake a skill, students must earn a retake ticket by doing at least two of the following:
- Correcting the original assessment with a teacher
- Doing or re-doing the homework that goes along with the skill
- Participating in a patriot plus session that goes along with the skill
- Getting extra help from the teacher either before school or after school
- Documentation of watching a video related to the skill (could include notes taken or example problems)

- If you need help, Mr. Washburn is available in the mornings (7:30-7:50) and Ms. Millett is available after school (3:15-3:45). You may see either one of us to ask questions.
